BIO Quebec, an association of nearly 250 innovative Quebec biotechnology and life science companies, whose mission is to support the growth and success of its members, thus invites all BIO 2006 visitors to come make the acquaintance of companies from the Province of Quebec and gain an appreciation of Quebec know-how and ingenuity. Piloted by BIO Quebec, in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development, Canada Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Investissement Quebec and Montreal International, an impressive delegation of 73 companies and organizations from the Province of Quebec will be attending this year's international biotechnology convention, BIO 2006, which is taking place from April 9 to 12, in Chicago. Quebec's Premier, Mr. Jean Charest, Quebec's Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Mr. Raymond Bachand will be in attendance and meeting with Quebec biotechnology companies during the convention. Quebec's life science industry counts more than 600 companies, providing some 40,000 jobs to Quebec workers. This sector also accounts for sales of more than $2 billion annually and private investment in research and development that totals more than $500 million. Furthermore, the Quebec life science industry cluster ranks 4th in North America and is the only one in North America to have recorded growth in its venture capital investments in 2005; this increase was approximately 12%.
