Many services will be closed or will operate on different hours during the holidays. It is a incomplete list of those affected: Retail stores will be closed New Year's Day and Jan. 2. Banks are close Jan. 2 and Jan. 3. Immigration, unemployment and all other federal government offices will be closed Jan. 2. Most city of Montreal departments, including Access Montreal offices, will be closed until Jan. 3. Many services in other local municipalities are unavailable or reduced. The Metropolitan Transportation Agency will offer free rides on the Montreal/Dorion-Rigaud and Montreal/ Deux Montagnes commuter trains on New Year's Day. Montreal Transit Corp. buses and metro trains will operate on a holiday schedule New Year's Day and Jan. 2. Most supermarkets will be open, but operating hours may vary. In Laval, municipal buildings will be closed until Jan. 3. There will be garbage, curbside recycling and large-item pickup in some districts of Montreal. Bonsecours Market (350 St. Paul St. E.) will be closed on New Year's Day. The Atwater, Jean Talon and Maisonneuve public markets will be closed New Year's Day and Jan. 2. During the week, they will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and during the weekend from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
